Abstract
We examine electric and magnetic fields inside meta materials made from sub wavelength high contrast media. We consider wave propagation inside meta material crystals. The spectrum and associated eigenspaces of Neumann Poincare operators are used to represent the linear operator for the non-coercive bilinear form associated with wave propagation inside meta materials. This is used to recover an analytic representation formula for fields inside optical meta materials. We the apply the theory to construct backward wave solutions of Maxwell?s equations inside sub wavelength high contrast media.
