Abstract

Parallel programming paradigms like MPI, OpenMP, and CUDA are industry standards for large scale high performance computing (HPC) codes. However, as HPC evolves these paradigms leave increasingly more to be desired in the way of code complexity, portability, and development time. The Chapel programming language is designed from the ground up as a parallel programming language, and can compete with or outperform conventional techniques with simpler, smaller, and clearer codes. The talk will give an introduction to the Chapel language, including features for parallelism and its parallel programming philosophy as compared to conventional techniques.
