Abstract

My research group and I work on the numerical simulation of hypersonic and high-temperature flows. These flows pose particular challenges to simulations because of complex geometries, finite-rate chemical reactions, strong shock waves, gas-surface interactions, and ablative surfaces. I will discuss recent progress toward the development of an implicit unstructured-grid parallel CFD method specifically designed for these flows. I will show recent results for several problems including the design of a Mach 10 hypersonic inward-turning inlet, the analysis of re-entry capsule base flows, and the detached eddy simulation of jets in supersonic cross-flow.
