Abstract
Inverse problems are, roughly speaking, problems where causes are determined for desired or observed effects. Inverse problems appear in many science and engineering disciplines, ranging from medical imaging, radar imaging, seismic imaging, non-destructive evaluation in materials to image processing, data assimilation and financial engineering. This talk intends to (i) provide an overview of recent developments in the field of inverse problems, and (ii) point out mathematical and computational challenges that the field is facing right now.
