The Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin welcomed its newest class of Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSEM) graduates and their families to a celebration reception on May 8, following the Graduate School Convocation ceremony. Students gathered with faculty, advisors, family, and peers in the Peter O'Donnell Building to mark the milestone.
“This year’s remarkable range of dissertation contributions covered research on fluids, ice sheets, cancer, preterm babies, medical imaging, Alzheimer's, hurricane storm surge, and much more. We are so incredibly proud of our graduates because they are going out into the world with a deeply interdisciplinary perspective that allows them to have incredible impact,” said Oden Institute Director Karen Willcox.
CSEM Graduate Advisor and Principal Faculty member George Biros joined Willcox and other faculty including Chandrajit Bajaj, Omar Ghattas, Thomas Hughes, David Fridovich-Keil, Joe Kileel, Bob Moser, David Paydarfar, Umberto Villa, Tom Yankeelov at the reception, many of which offered remarks on their student's individual achievements.
“Whatever path you take, please stay connected to the Institute. Think about all those decision points along the way of your degree - from attending seminars to listening to a visitor who told their story. I want you all to be that inspiration for our future students and our future faculty,” added Willcox.
