J. Tinsley Oden will become Emeritus Editor-in-Chief of Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering (CMAME), effective January 1, 2022, after nearly 50 years of tirelessly serving the journal and the computational science and engineering (CSE) community. CMAME journal has been at the forefront of modern computational research, publishing papers focused on solutions to problems in applied mechanics, engineering and more.

J. Tinsley Oden is Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, Professor of Mathematics, and Professor of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Austin.  He is the founding director of the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, and he holds the Cockrell Family Regents’ Chair in Engineering.

His list of accolades goes on and on but editing CMAME was always a source of great pride for Oden, whom many consider to be the father of computational mechanics.

"The creation and leadership of CMAME is yet another way J. Tinsley Oden's vision has shaped our field," said Oden Instittute Director, Karen Willcox. "CMAME is a premier journal publication venue for interdisciplinary research at the interfaces of applied mathematics, computing and engineering. Its impact stretches back many decades, with a vision that was well ahead of its time."

Oden thanked his colleagues, friends and Elsevier for the recognition. “My years involved as an editor of CMAME have been a great privilege and have brought me into daily contact with the broad worldwide community of researchers and academics in computational science, applied and computational mathematics, and computational mechanics.”
