After building years of experience working in research grant processing, and passing a four-hour exam to “demonstrate mastery of laws governing federal contracts and grants,” Derrick Ozuna, an ICES senior administrative associate, is now a certified research administrator (CRA).
“I’m the first staff member from ICES to be CRA certified, and I am grateful to my faculty supervisor Dr. Michael Sacks for supporting me in obtaining the certification,” Ozuna said.
Obtaining CRA certification from the Research Administrators Certification Council demonstrates expertise in skills such as financial management, general management, legal requirements, and project development, as related to research administration.
“The skills from this certification are used on a daily basis when processing ICES grant proposals (known as pre-award) and when managing the financial, operational and reporting aspects of awarded grants (post-award),” Ozuna said.
