Published March 20, 2019

The Oden Institute's Cynthia Steiner received the Spring 2019 Exemplary 140 Service Award from the Vice President for Research. She was among five recipients nominated by their supervisors and selected by the Exemplary 140 Committee.

Steiner, a senior administrative associate, assists four faculty members including their research groups, with a total of 39 employees. Cynthia has successfully submitted complex proposals to federal agencies like DARPA, AFOSR MURI, NSF, NASA, DOE and now helps manage a large portfolio of federal grants, endowments, and other accounts totaling approximately $18 Million, including a $7.5 Million AFOSR MURI grant.

"Without Cynthia's support, I sincerely believe that I would not be able to grow my group's size to its current level or manage as effectively," wrote Ufuk Topcu, one of the faculty members Steiner supports. "The extraordinary skills and effort Cynthia puts into her work have been recognized by all of my colleagues here at UT, and at other U.S. and international institutions with whom Cynthia has interacted. Many of these colleagues have explicitly expressed their appreciation for Cynthia's efficiency and effectiveness in the details of grant management and communication."

"Cynthia has proven to be a remarkable employee; she is extremely capable, smart, and consistently demonstrates a good attitude given her extensive workload," said supervisor Fatima Bridgewater. "She is extremely productive, works hard to meet all her deadlines, and does it all with an exceptional level of professionalism.

Recipients are awarded up to four days of paid time off.
