Postdoctoral Fellow Center for Scientific Machine Learning
Aleksey completed his PhD at Columbia University, working on galactic nuclei with Brian Metzger and Nicholas Stone. Following his PhD, Aleksey held postdoctoral positions at the University of Colorado Boulder and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, where he was supported by a Zuckerman Fellowship. He joined the Oden Institute in January 2025 to work with Stella Offner on stellar multiples.
Aleksey is a theorist working on stellar dynamics and stellar multiples. He is particularly interested in our Galactic Center and its hidden population of small black holes, using N-body simulations and other techniques to place constraints on their number and masses. Such constraints will inform expectations for current and future gravitational wave observatories and are of broad interest to the astrophysics community.
Recently, Aleksey has expanded his focus to the formation and evolution of stellar multiples. These systems, which include most stars, are critical to understanding a wide range of astrophysical phenomena, from planet formation to supernova explosions. Currently, he is analyzing data from cutting-edge magnetohydrodynamic simulations of star-forming regions to explore how these systems form.
