Maddie Schmitz

Biography
Maddie is a postdoctoral fellow at the Oden Institute working with John T Foster. Her work focuses on developing a peridynamics model that predicts crack growth in additively manufactured conducting inks. Maddie obtained her PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah. In her PhD work she used experimental and computational methods to study the effects of microstructural alignment on the mechanical properties of magnetically freeze-cast scaffolds. Prior to getting her PhD Maddie graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the College of St. Benedict, MN. Outside of work Maddie enjoys traveling, skiing, hiking, spending time with her friends, and watching women's sports.
