Shane grew up in Provo, Utah, where he attended Brigham Young University for a B.S. and M.S. in mathematics from 2010–2018. From 2011–2013 he served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chicago, where he learned Spanish and discovered the true meaning of pizza. He and his wife were married in 2015 and are now the parents of three: two energetic boys and a little girl. His hobbies include jazz trumpet, frisbee, and watching Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood with the boys. His research interests include applied mathematics, scientific machine learning, model reduction, inverse problems, and numerical PDE.
