Biography

Wennie Wang is an assistant professor in the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering. She obtained her Bachelors of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT in 2013 and her PhD in Materials from the University of California Santa Barbara in 2018. Before joining UT Austin, she completed a postdoctoral appointment at the University of Chicago in the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering. Her work has been recognized by the American Physical Society, the Materials Research Society, SPIE (the international society of optics and photonics), and the NSF GRFP fellowship.

Wennie leads the Wang Materials Group, which specialized in in computational materials and computational chemistry based on first-principles calculations. Her research focused on the optoelectronic properties of extended systems in energy-sustainability technologies, including photo- and electrocatalytic materials and materials in next-generation memory and storage devices. A major research theme is understanding the behavior of defects, surfaces, and interfaces. The Wang Materials Group engages in interdisciplinary research, with members from physics, chemistry, ECE, ChE, and MS&E backgrounds.
