In Memoriam

Jim Browne was a formative figure in UT Austin computing who helped build infrastructure and leadership that enabled computational research at scale. As one of the earliest faculty members of UT’s Department of Computer Science, he contributed to campus-wide computing strategy and the acquisition of advanced computing resources. His long-standing commitment to research computing and graduate education made him an important ally to the Institute’s computational mission and community. Colleagues and former students remember him for his intellectual curiosity, practical wisdom, and generosity toward students in need.
