The Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin welcomed graduating students and their families to a celebration reception on May 10, following the Graduate School Convocation ceremony. Students earning graduate degrees in Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSEM) gathered with faculty, advisors, family, and peers in the Peter O’Donnell Building to mark the milestone.
Oden Institute Director Karen Willcox opened the ceremony by recognizing the magnitude of the graduates’ achievements. “There are many things that go on here at the university, but educating graduate students is one of the most special things we as faculty do,” she said. “While many graduate degrees demand expertise in a single field, this program demands expertise in three. It’s a grueling degree, but turning out these graduates who have been educated across disciplinary boundaries is more important now than ever.”
CSEM Graduate Advisor and Principal Faculty member George Biros joined Willcox and other faculty including Todd Arbogast (Chair of the CSEM Graduate Studies Committee), Irene Gamba, Omar Ghattas, Ufuk Topcu, Clint Dawson, Richard Tsai, Marc Hesse, Tom Hughes, Michael Sacks, and Aaron Zimmerman, who offered remarks and congratulations as their students prepare for careers in academia, industry, and research.
The event honored a total of 31 graduates who completed degrees between August 2024 and May 2025. Below is the list of all graduating students.
